Alleppey
Beach is now named as Alappuzha Beach. Alleppey is one of the most beautiful
and hence popular tourist spots in Kerala. Alappuzha Beach provides various
beach entertainment facilities at its Vijaya Park, and nearby there is an old
lighthouse that is of immense interest for the visitors. Alleppey is the second
town in India that has lakes similar to what we find at Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Both these places are rightly called Venice of the East.
Alleppey has immense beauty also in the form of its beach.
Alleppey backwaters
are quiet where the rustle of palm trees is the only other sound heard. Alleppey
tourism provides immense natural aqua, complemented with the Arabian Sea on
the west and a vast network of lagoons, lakes, and fresh water rivers serenading
through. There exists a 140 years old pier extending into the sea here. A rice
bowl region in Alleppey called Kuttanad has the singular characteristic in the
world where farming is done below sea level. The town becomes most vibrant

during
July, August, September and January when snake Boat races are held.

Bekal Beach

: The Beach has a 2000 Year Old Shrine of Lord Vishnu

Bekal
is claimed to be a beach destination of the future. The unspoiled place has
all the ingredients like long palm-fringed beaches leading up the rocky headland
topped by the huge Bekal Fort. One can get a good view of serene Lakshadweep
Sea from the Observatory of the Bekal Fort that was once guarded from sea pirates
by huge cannon that still exists here.
Bekal Beach was once an active small
port where Europeans, Dutch and Portuguese conducted the commercial activities
with the local kings during pre-colonial days. Bekal Fort on the sea beach is
one of the best preserved in Kerala.
Bekal Beach is one of the best
places to see the local life of the fishing village. One can enjoy watching the
fishing boats jostling for space, fishermen shouting heehaw while pushing boats
to the sea, haggling to sell the fish.

Kanyakumari
Beach is situated at the lands end at the southern most tip of India.
The confluence of Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal at Kanyakumari
(Kanniyakumari) is also an important pilgrim center. The seashore is rocky and
dangerous at places and people are warned to stay off the demarcation. There
is a lighthouse from where one can get a panoramic view.
The tourism of
Kanyakumari beach provides not only the beautiful, spectacular and famous sunrises
and sunsets, more eventfully on full moon days, it is an attractive place that
offers one the opportunity to sunbathe on soft golden sands. The long stretches
of Kanyakumari beach sands provide perfect settings for fun and frolic as also
the kiosks selling variety of sea shells on the sidewalks.
Prime
Attractions of Kanyakumari Beach The Sangams: Sangam is the
meeting point of the three major bodies of water, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian
Sea and the Indian Ocean. It is considered a sacred bathing ghat, with steps leading
into the water and a sort of lagoon formed between lands by a series of rocks.
Vivekananda's Rock: Kanyakumari is famous for Vivekananda's rock,
a huge stone rising out of the sea, Kanyakumari Beach on which Swami Vivekananda
is said to have meditated. It now houses the statue of Vivekananda and is a memorial
to him. Since Kanyakumari is a popular destination for Vivekananda's followers,
most from Bengal, so it is not surprising to see some Bengali hotels and restaurants
on the shore.
Gandhi Mandapam: This Mandapam is the place where Mahatma Gandhi's ashes
were kept before being immersed into the sea according to the Hindu traditions.
Kanyakumari Amman Temple: This temple on the Kanyakumari shore is
dedicated to Goddess Sakthi, who according to Hindu mythology remains a virgin
to save mankind.
How to Get There
Air: Chennai (58-km) is the nearest airport with both domestic and international
terminus. Chennai is connected with all the major places in India through the
numerous domestic flights. International flights operate from various parts of
the world to Chennai.
Rail: The nearest railway stations are
Chengalpattu (29-km) and Chennai (58-km). From these stations one has to take
the road to reach Mahabalipuram.
Road: There are buses available
from Pondicherry, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Chennai to Mahabalipuram daily.
The road to Mahabalipuram is good. Tourists can also hire a taxi from Chennai.

Kappad Beach

Significance : Vasco da Gama landed here in 1498

Kappad Beach has the history attached, as it was at this beach where Vasco da
Gama landed with his 170 men in three vessels in 1498. A visit to Indian Beach
Tours in Kerala, offers an insight into the Kappad Beach. This shore is one of
the first discoveries of a sea route to India. The rock studded beach is locally
called Kappakadavu. A solitary pillar commemorates the event with the inscription,
"Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498". There is
800 years old temple on the sprawling rock protruding into the sea, providing
an excellent landscape. The beautiful Kappad beach has placid sea and seemingly
untouched by history or time.
